Seeing The World Perfectly, Together: Charlie And James Talk About Undergoing Laser Eye Surgery As A Couple At Optimax
Love, at least as far as romantic relationships go, involves doing several things together and taking on journeys as a team. Whether it’s the simple things like skydiving, or the more complex tasks like taking out the bin bags, there’s something refreshing about navigating life with the one person you enjoy waking up next to.
Charlie Bond and James Hamer-Morton, both actors, have run Escape Rooms as a couple for eight years, and they have both struggled with poor eyesight for much longer. A few months ago, they made the decision to walk in together and have laser eye surgery at our Reading clinic; Charlie had LASEK surgery while James went in for the LASIK procedure.
Their recovery has been spectacular, they are excited at the perfect vision they now enjoy, and it is with great enthusiasm that they have shared their story as well as the process of undergoing a procedure that has changed both their lives.
James had been wearing glasses and contact lenses for thirty-five years. For Charlie, her poor vision prevented her from having an active lifestyle: she had been using contact lenses since she turned fifteen, she had struggled with eye infections throughout the years, and on many occasions she had to purchase new pairs of glasses because they kept getting either scratched or broken.
In the final quarter of 2024, Charlies and James decided to undergo laser eye surgery at Optimax. In the couple’s opinion, it was a fitting Christmas gift to each other. Charlie in particular was fed up of waking up every morning and needing to either insert contact lenses in her eyes or check that her glasses were safe.
“It was getting to the end of the year, and neither of us had any idea what to buy each other, so we thought, ‘new eyes’, why not?”, Charlie tells us.
The couple booked a consultation after stumbling on one of our social media ads, and they were impressed by the top-quality customer service provided by the staff at our Reading clinic. According to them, they had expressed a little nervousness about their respective procedures, but the professionalism and warmth of our employees were enough to calm their frayed nerves. They also praised us for the ease and speed of the procedures, with Charlie pleasantly surprised that it “really lasted for thirty seconds.”
It’s been two months since Charlie and James had their surgeries, and they are slowly getting used to the joyful feeling of no longer needing to take off their glasses or contact lenses before going to bed. The couple also tells us that compared to the amount they have spent on glasses and contact lenses over the past decade, opting for laser eye surgery has turned out to be a money-saving decision for them.
James, basking in the euphoria of his new-found vision, expressed gratitude to Charlie for convincing him to try out laser eye surgery with her.
“If I hadn’t been pushed towards it by her (Charlie), I would have had no idea how good laser eye surgery could be”, says James.
The change in lifestyle has been a welcome development for the couple, and as they navigate each new day perfect vision, they describe laser eye surgery as a “big upgrade” that “massively influences your life.” They are keen on spreading the word about refractive surgery, further noting that it has greatly improved the live-action interactions in the escape rooms they operate.
