Stuck on Long Waiting Lists for NHS Cataract Treatment? Optimax Ultralase is here to help!
In recent years, long waiting times for NHS treatment have made it increasingly common for NHS patients to turn to private healthcare providers for care. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this issue, as many hospitals and clinics have had to delay or cancel non-emergency procedures and surgeries in order to focus on the most urgent cases.
According to a recent article from the BBC, NHS patients in Scotland have been particularly affected by this issue, with some waiting up to three years for cataract surgery. In England, there are currently 628,500 people all waiting for an NHS ophthalmology appointment, with many experiencing further loss of sight while they wait to receive the care they need.
Patients in Wales are not faring much better, with the average wait time for NHS treatments now at double the length it was before the pandemic. In fact, there are currently over 4000 Welsh patients that have been waiting to receive eye surgery for over 2 years! All of this has led to a rise in private treatment, as patients seek to avoid months’ long waiting lists and receive the care they need as soon as possible.
At Optimax Ultralase, we understand the frustration and anxiety that can come with long waiting times for medical treatment.
