Mr Christopher Stephenson is an NHS Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Northwest Anglian Foundation Trust in Cambridgshire. With 30 years experience in Ophthalmology, he specialises in microincision cataract surgery, corneal diseases and corneal transplantation. He also deals with contact lens related conditions and dry eye disease.
He initially qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1983. After clinical experience in general practice, he specialised in ophthalmology both in South Africa and the United Kingdon becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1995. Mr Stephenson then undertook a clinical fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at St Thomas' Hospital, London under Professor John Marshall. Following this he became a fully accredited laser eye surgeon holding the "Certificate in Refractive Surgery" qualification from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Stephenson has published scientific articles in the prestigious Ophthalmology journal as well as presenting papers at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Congress, the Congress of the Royal College of Ophthalmology and the United Kingdom and European Refractive Surgery Congresses. He has performed more than 30,000 refractive surgeries, as well as cataract and intraocular lens surgery, with over 1,000 procedures each year. He offers a full range of microincision cataract and corneal surgery, refractive intraocular lens surgery and implantable contact lens surgery.
