Visual snow is a condition with which you’ll see a static-like effect over your visual field. It has been likened to the kind of fuzziness or flickering that you might see when you’re watching an old TV that loses signal intermittently, taking on a black and white fuzzy layer over the image on screen. Visual snow can manifest itself in a number of different ways. Not everyone experiences the symptoms to the same degree, nor will everyone suffer with the same combination of symptoms.

Night blindness, also known as nyctalopia, is a condition which means that your eyes are unable to adapt to low-light conditions. It usually occurs when there are issues with the rod cells – a type of photoreceptor cell in your retina – which are responsible for facilitating your night vision. Nystagmus is a condition where your eyes shake involuntary from side to side, up and down, or in a circular motion. These movements are uncontrollable which can be very frustrating for the person experiencing them, especially as it can also affect your visual acuity. There are around 2 per every 1,000 people who suffer with nystagmus to some degree. Nystagmus can vary in its severity and in how it manifests itself. We’re going to look at the different types of nystagmus, what causes them, and how you may be able to reduce some of the symptoms and effects on your vision.
While we’ve written about a few different creatures before on this blog, we’ve never looked into the vision of snails. Their eyes are on top of stalks and, incredibly, they use the sense of touch near their eyes to help them navigate. While human eyes are typically 24mm in diameter, snail eyes are no more than 1-2mm in diameter.
